Refined Bath
South Bay, CA
A dated guest bath rebuilt as a quiet, tactile room — fewer materials, better ones, and light handled with intent.
The Challenge
The room read cold and busy. Four competing finishes, flat overhead light, and a vanity that fought the only window in the space.
The Approach
We reduced the palette to three materials and let texture do the work. The vanity was rebuilt in rift oak and floated to recover floor, and lighting moved to the vertical plane so faces are lit rather than washed out.
Details
- Floating rift-oak vanity with integrated finger pull
- Seamless microcement to wall and floor, no transitions
- Wall-mounted bronze fittings set to a single centerline
- Sconce placement tuned at mock-up, not on paper
Materials
- Rift white oak
- Microcement
- Honed limestone
- Unlacquered bronze

The Result
A room that feels calm at every hour — warm and soft in the morning, low and intimate at night.
