Functional Detail
Palos Verdes, CA
The smallest project on this page, and the one the owners mention first. An entry rebuilt around a single moment of light.
The Challenge
The entry was a pass-through — no place to set anything down, and a wall finish that killed the light coming through the door.
The Approach
One solid oak bench, one limewash wall, nothing else. The finish was chosen for how it holds an afternoon shadow rather than how it looks on a sample board.
Details
- Solid oak bench, mitred and wall-anchored
- Hand-applied limewash tuned on site
- Baseboard simplified to a flush reveal
- Single object placement studied before install
Materials
- Solid white oak
- Limewash
- Travertine
- Matte bronze

The Result
An arrival that sets the tone for the rest of the house in about four seconds.
